SHOWstudio's Splash! - Iris van Herpen: Process Film

Back in June we posted about SHOWstudio's new collaboration project between brilliant dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen, photographer Nick Knight and artist Daphne Guinness. The aim was to create a dynamic 'water' dress after the scrupulous analysis of the pre-made footage purposefully shot in slow-mo that captures fickle dynamics of the element. Yesterday, SHOWstudio posted an edited footage of the 7 day process behind the Iris' creation. From research and analysis to the final outcome, one can see the astounding progress on the project and technique by which Iris attempts to transform sheets of plastic into an abstract splash that has to fit the body and hold to it just by leaning on the waist (!). Pretty amazing!

Sonomorphic Mirror

The latest project from the always innovative SHOWstudio, entitled Splash!, features a cast of remarkable collaborators. Iris van Herpen had joined forces with Nick Knight and Daphne Guinness to create a new 'Crystallization' dress live on camera. Knight captured Guinness being splashed with black and clear water, and then offer up the footage to van Herpen to create a one-of-a-kind water dress. Combining archaic crafts with futuristic technologies van Herpen created a shape shifting garment that defies logic.

Meanwhile, Geoffrey Lillemon has created Sonomorphic Mirror, a dramatic fashion film to accompany SHOWstudio’s now finished ‘Splash!’ LiveStudio. Working from footage of Nick Knight’s water shoot with Daphne Guinness, Lillemon has created captivating visuals of water in motion and Salvador Breed has produced a powerful sound piece. Together, these evoke the magic and ambition of latest LiveStudio. The stages of the process and further information can be found here.
